THIRTY DAVIDSON THEATRE STUDENTS ATTENDED STATE CONFERENCE
Thirty Davidson thespians travelled to Ashland University in Ashland, OH for the 2008 Ohio Educational Theatre Association annual state thespian conference the weekend of April 4-6. Accompanied by the theatre faculty, the students presented YELLING FIRE IN A BURNING THEATRE to a full house and viewed shows and cuttings from other schools, participated in Individual Events, saw the All-Ohio production of DEAD MAN WALKING, attended workshops, auditioned for colleges, and networked with high school theatre students from across the state.
Three Davidson students worked as part of the 2008 All-Ohio Thespian Production of DEAD MAN WALKING
For over twenty consecutive years, Davidson students have been part of this prestigious ensemble. The 2008 All-Ohio Thespian Production Dead Man Walking was cast and crewed as a result of state-wide auditions/interviews. Davidson is again well represented in the ensemble. This year's All-Ohioers were Jillian Brunner, Dyani Robarge, and Mollie Hamilton. Senior Jill served as assistant technical director/master electrician/business crew/scenic artist/carpenter. Juniors Dyani Robarge and Mollie Hamilton served as properties masters/deck chiefs/carpenters. Dead Man Walking, written by Tim Robbins and based on the novel by Sister Helen Prejean, was presented to two packed houses on April 4th as the opening event of the conference and received standing ovations for both performances. This is both an honor for the student and the school program. Way to go, girls!
Jillian Brunner to do her Senior Project with Mary Taranteno, OSU lighting designer
Fourth year Tech Crew member, Jillian Brunner will be spending April with OSU's lighting designer Mary Taranteno as part of her Senior Project Walk-About. Jill will be spending time reading college lighting texts; attending some OSU classes, rehearsals, and performances; interviewing OSU technical theatre students and faculty; and immersing herself in her future career field. Earlier this year, Jillian Brunner (senior) completed a 16 week mentorship program through Hilliard Davidson High School that allowed her to work with T.J. Gerckins, production manager at CATCO. T.J. is a Hilliard graduate (from the old Hilliard High School on Scioto-Darby Rd.), an Otterbein graduate, a Boston university graduate, and an award-winning internationally known lighting designer. T.J.'s most recent project took him to work at the Metropolitan Opera in New York City. His most recent Broadway credit is Metamorphosis.
